Coventry's last remaining Crown Post Office closed it's doors for the last time today after serving the public for over 100 years at Hertford Street. It is a sad day for Coventry and a sad day for customers as an inferior service will be offered by W.H. Smith. It is also another case of declining working conditions with workers transferring to W.H. Smith with lower wages, changing working hours and contracts that will leave them worse off.
Royal Mail will continue to asset strip once they have sold the building and made a tidy sum but Coventry will never see another publicly owned Post Office as the Government continue it's back door privatization programme.
