Death of the CD?

Woolworths have announced that they will no longer be selling CD singles in their UK stores from August onwards. With HMV already reducing the number of CD's available in store it looks like the days of the CD single could be over for the UK consumer.

Although customers may be happy to purchase from HMV.COM, it is only a matter of time before the retailer starts to charge customers for delivery once in store availability diminishes.

UK CD sales dropped by 10% in the first half of 2007 yet digital sales increased 50% during the first six months of 2007 and signal the end of the single as importance continues to point toward album sales. Collectors - pack up your bags and move on now, the show is over..........
